Thank you for being a part of the Back to School activities over the past days. The opportunity for teachers to provide an overview of the school year and to forge that critical partnership with you is foundational to a successful year of learning for your child. I know it is an effort. My wife and I spent last evening with our daughter’s eight 11th grade teachers and we learned mightily much that we would not have otherwise known. And now we have MUCH more to add to our school conversations with her. I hope it is the same for you.
An important part of the guidance of this big ship called “Bridge Point” is the Campus Leadership Team (CLT). The CLT is a campus-based shared governance group consisting of six teachers elected by their colleagues, four parents, two community residents, two business representatives and a member from the EISD central administrative staff. The CLT deliberates “direction” decisions…big picture stuff. Examples include curriculum initiatives, campus programs, goal setting, school organization, professional leaning and resource allocation; financial and human. The CLT solicits information and analyzes data. Members deliberate tricky issues such as homework policy or materials selection. The CLT weighed in on redistricting attendance areas during a period of campus overcrowding.
An annual responsibility of the CLT is to develop a “Campus Improvement Plan” (CIP). The CIP is a document that outlines do-able improvement activities. They are initiatives that can reasonably enhance learning for our students. The CIP goals receive priority attention each year.
Please examine the Bridge Point Campus Improvement Plan goals for 2010-11. They represent areas of focus but by no means limit other opportunities that make sense for an improved school.
o Improve technology competencies and utilize applications for improved instruction, presentation and organizational efficiency. Institute interactive whiteboard technology for instructional support. Institute School Fusion for classroom web presence.
o Implement the new reading/LA adoption, “Reading Street”. Monitor student progress through the using of campus/district/state assessments.
o Implement a Fifth Grade departmentalized instructional delivery method.
o Emphasize the elements of Life Skills program to further mutual respect and self-reliance, particularly related to bullying.
o Increase to 100% the students meeting standards for all subjects assessed by TAKS. Improve by 5% the students performing at the “commended” level. (Goal required by the Texas Education Agency)
The CLT monitors progress on these CIP goals during its monthly meetings.
If you have an interest in serving on the CLT, please let me know by Friday, September 10. The first Campus Leadership Team meeting will be Thursday, September 16 at 1:00 PM in the Science Lab. All are welcome to attend and even non-members actively participate in each meeting. Meeting dates will be on the calendar of the BP website and agendas/minutes will be posted there as well.
It has been a huge two weeks. Enjoy your long weekend.
Sincerely,
M. Bradford Wirht
Principal
