MRS. MEEK'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

Dear BPE Families,

October was a very busy and exciting month: parent conferences, Arts Days, Halloween AND the World Series win for Houston! I hope everyone finds time get some much needed rest this weekend as we "gear up" for the holiday season.

Just a few quick reminders for next week:

  • Tuesday, November 7 is an early release day for students. Students will be dismissed at 12:50 and lunch will be served.

  • On Friday, November 10 during Morning Assembly, our BPE Third Grade students and their teachers are hosting a Veterans Day ceremony for the entire school.  We welcome you to join us and we invite family members or friends who are Veterans to attend as well.

  • Finally, I shared the Principal Book of the Month for October with the students today at assembly. This month's choice is The Girl Who Never Made a Mistake by Mark Pett. I have ordered a book for every grade level so students have access to the book in addition to what is in the library. Starting this month, any child that reads this book and responds to my secret question will receive a special edition Principal Book of the Month pencil AND be entered into a monthly drawing to have lunch on the stage with me. To qualify students will need to read the book and answer my secret question found on Flip Grid. Happy Reading!

All My Best,

Heather Meek

Counselor's Corner

It's hard to believe it is already November! This week we introduced our November Life Skill: Growth Mindset. Students are learning the difference between growth and fixed mindset.  Growth mindset is an important life skill for students both at home and at school. Often we see kids who are afraid of failure- they equate a lack of success in one activity or subject area to being an all around failure. We want children to view obstacles not as inadequacies, but as opportunities to learn and grow. Teachers will be passing out leaf cut-outs to students they observe using a growth mindset. Counselor led classroom SEL lessons will be building on the theme of growth mindset.  We are reading the book The Thing Loud Couldn't Do, as students explore "The Power of Yet." Don't forget to join the counselors for Parent Coffee on Friday, November 17 as we discuss how to empower your child using SEL!

Sincerely,

Addie Edwards and Amy Ashorn
