Counselor's Corner

Last week, we introduced our second Life Skill of the year: Cooperation! A group of twelve 4th grade students worked together to share the Life Skill with our BPE students.  They presented in assembly about what cooperation looks like and sounds like in different places around school. Teachers began passing out Paw Prints to recognize students demonstrating cooperation. The Life Skills Board is already filling up quickly! Students will continue to focus their efforts on showing Cooperation throughout the month of October.

We also began our second round of counselor led SEL lessons last week! We are reading the book Where Oliver Fits, by Cade Atkinson, which facilitates discussion on fitting in and how we all have a place in our BPE community. As always, you can visit our Bridge Point SEL website at bpesel.weebly.com to see when we will be visiting your child's classroom.

The Shelf Life: Library Updates

Over the last two weeks, fourth and fifth grade students have been reviewing all of the different genres of literature in library. After explaining the genres, Ms. Ricter showed students book trailers and told them about some of her favorite books from each category. All of Ms. Ricter's recommended books are included in the slideshow on the library blog. If you click on each slide, there is also a link to the book trailer for that genre.

At Morning Assembly today, Ms. Ricter announced that we would be decorating the library with pumpkins again this year. Students should bring their pumpkins in on Monday, October 23rd or Tuesday, October 24th. For more information, please read the flyer at the end of the Bridge Point of View or watch this short video.

Socktober!

SOCKTOBER is alive and well at Bridge Point. The PE teachers, Ms. Dean, Mrs. Rose, and Mrs. Pate, kicked off a campaign earlier this month that is not new to the Austin community, but new to Bridge Point! Throughout the month of October, we ask that you donate new socks to bring some good to those in our city who are in need.  Socks made of wool or wicking material tend to dry quickly when they get wet, but any new socks are appreciated.  Organizations that are collecting socks are the Veteran's Association, Easterseals, Salvation Army and more.  At the end of the month, we will deliver all of the socks collected to some of these local charities.  Thank you for your help in spreading joy and kindness!

Check out the Kid President video we shared a couple of weeks ago at morning assembly.
