Bridge Point Elementary

Dear BPE Families,

The party never stops here at BPE. Bingo Night on February 15th was a fun time had by all. I would personally like to thank Lynn Bonsky, Nicole Depner, and their team for putting together another successful event. The disco theme was a huge hit!

Students and teachers have been working hard every day in preparation for Open House. Friday morning the building came to life at 7:30 am when students entered, glowing with pride, to share with families their learning and creations from the year. Thank you parents for the huge turn out on such a rainy morning. I loved watching the kids shine as they happily escorted parents and grandparents through the building.

Next week is going to be busy too. Tuesday, February 28 will be an early release day. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:50 and lunch will be served.

Friday, March 2 is our first Movie Night. Booster Club is hosting and will set up a big screen on the soccer field. Food trucks and FREE popcorn will be on site so come hungry. Bring a blanket and settle in for a fun evening with family and friends. Hope to see you all next Friday!

All My Best,

Heather Meek

Counselor's Corner

Project Kindness began this week. Jars are dispersed throughout the school filled with kind and inspirational messages to help spread kindness. Kids are encouraged to use these notes to lift their own spirits and brighten the days of others. As students utilize these notes of appreciation, we also encourage them to replenish the jar so that students may continue to pull from them all the way until spring break! We encourage you, as parents, to use this as an opportunity to talk to your kids about how to practice empathy, compassion and kindness- to look for individuals who may be in need of an uplifting message and then act on it. We are optimistic about this opportunity to grow our community of kindness. Our Fifth Grade No Place for Hate Student Council created this video (scroll to the bottom of the page view) to provide a little more information about Project Kindness!

The Shelf Life: Library Updates

In honor of Valentine's Day, all kindergarten, first, and second grade classes spent last week creating a variety of crafts. Kindergarteners made their own heart-themed animals inspired by the book My Heart is Like a Zoo. In first grade, students made monster finger puppets after reading Love Monster.

Lastly, we took a leap of faith in second grade and tried something entirely new. After reading OX, Ox, a silly book about an ox who writes love letters to a gazelle, students were tasked with designing their own valentines. They learned all about electricity and used this knowledge to construct paper circuit valentines. Even though the process was challenging at times, each student came out on the other side proud of all their hard work.

See photos of these fun activities on the library blog!

Kite Days 2018

All students will be flying kites during their PE class on March 7th (B Day), 8th (C Day) or 9th (A Day)!

Parents are invited to come and fly kites with their child, but are asked not to bring younger siblings! Please park in front of the school (in designated parking spaces) or at Riverbend (not by the field in order to reduce traffic). You can meet your child out on the field, we will bring them outside after some brief instructions. Please take your child's kite home with you after we are done flying!

Kites have been purchased by the Booster Club for every student! Kites will be distributed to your child's class before their Kite Day. Students will use these kites only, please do not bring other kites from home! The teachers (along with their classroom buddies for the younger grades) will help put together the kites. They will be ready to go for kite day!

We hope that the weather cooperates, but if kite flying is not possible during a class we will  play games in the gym instead. Please do not call the office to see if kite day has been cancelled! Kite days will not be rescheduled.

You can get ready for kite flying by attending the Zilker Kite Festival on Sunday, March 4th.

Students may only attend the kite day for their PE class. Please do not ask to participate with another group due to your child's absence on their assigned kite day. Look at the schedule below for your child's Kite Day!
