Kite Days 2018

All students will be flying kites during their PE class on March 7th (B Day), 8th (C Day) or 9th (A Day)!

Parents are invited to come and fly kites with their child, but are asked not to bring younger siblings! Please park in front of the school (in designated parking spaces) or at Riverbend (not by the field in order to reduce traffic). You can meet your child out on the field, we will bring them outside after some brief instructions. Please take your child's kite home with you after we are done flying!

Kites have been purchased by the Booster Club for every student! Kites will be distributed to your child's class before their Kite Day. Students will use these kites only, please do not bring other kites from home! The teachers (along with their classroom buddies for the younger grades) will help put together the kites. They will be ready to go for kite day!

We hope that the weather cooperates, but if kite flying is not possible during a class we will  play games in the gym instead. Please do not call the office to see if kite day has been cancelled! Kite days will not be rescheduled.

Students may only attend the kite day for their PE class. Please do not ask to participate with another group due to your child's absence on their assigned kite day. Look at the schedule below for your child's Kite Day!

Counselor's Corner

This week we wrapped up our February counselor lessons about integrity.  In each class we read the book The Empty Pot.  This story explores what integrity looks like, and how uncomfortable and challenging it can be at times.  Above all, this story illustrates how much courage it takes to have integrity and that doing the right thing is always best!  After reading the story, students explored a number of scenarios and had to determine whether or not students were showing integrity.  Students in fourth and fifth grade viewed this video of Jack Sock displaying true integrity through sportsmanship.  We discussed how integrity doesn't always lead to reward and glory, but that we must do the right thing even when there is not incentive.

Third through fifth grade students also spent three minutes in each class practicing mindful thinking time.  We used the Tao Mix 2 app to listen to calming sounds while we reflected in silence.  Students utilized this time to clear their minds and/or focus on positive thoughts.  We introduced this strategy as a way to help manage stress and train ourselves to slow down, relax and feel comfortable alone in our minds.

The Shelf Life: Library Updates

During open house last week, we were fortunate enough to host two librarians from Westbank Library at Bridge Point. They spent the morning signing families up for library cards, telling about their upcoming spring break programs, and explaining how to use OverDrive to check out e-books. There was a wonderful turn out, and we hope to continue this community partnership next year!

If you didn't have a chance to sign up for a library card on Friday, you can stop by Westbank Library or Laura's Library at any time to get one. As long as your address is within the Eanes ISD boundaries or you are an Eanes staff member, it's free!
