MRS. MEEK'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

Dear BPE Families,

Yesterday, your child's report card was released on Skyward. Each nine weeks teachers provide progress information that summarizes your child's progress on summative and formative measures.  I expect Bridge Point teachers to add narrative comments, specific to your child, to bring more meaning to the reported grades.  I believe the above-and-beyond effort they apply for each of their students is worth the time and care that it takes to make sure you have a full understanding of your child's performance.  It is a lot of work and is another reflection of the professionalism and commitment of Bridge Point teachers.  Sheri Bryant and I have read each report card.  We appreciate and admire the teachers' efforts and the information provided on your child's behalf. If need clarification after you have reviewed the report card, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher. I believe it takes a partnership between home and school to ensure growth and success for our children.

Reminders for next week:

  • Tuesday, March 27th: Early Release. School will be let out at 12:50 and lunch will be served.
  • Thursday, March 29th: Life Touch will be here to take class pictures.
  • Friday, March 30th: No school for staff or students due to the Good Friday holiday.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Heather Meek

Counselor's Corner

On Tuesday, March 27 all coats and clothing that are left in the lost and found will be donated to Forest Trail Elementary's clothing drive. Please encourage your child to stop by the lost and found to claim missing jackets or sweaters before then! We make every effort to find the owners of jackets with names in the them, so please make sure to always label your child's jackets with their first and last name.

Report cards were posted yesterday, so I would like to remind you of a resource we shared earlier this year- the Parent Toolkit. This website has resources and information on topics ranging from academics to health & wellness. Perhaps my favorite section of the website is the one dedicated to Social Emotional Learning. There you can find developmental milestones, strategies to support your child's social and emotional growth and many great articles.

Yesterday we also said goodbye to Ms. Ashorn as she leaves to pursue her new and exciting career opportunity. We will miss her terribly, but appreciate her two years of service here at BPE and all that she has taught us!

Sincerely,

Addie Edwards

One way to support your teen in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making.

Winners: Leslie Boldrick, Anthony Diaz, Meg Green, Meredith Joseph, Tracie Mojica, Shannon Pipkin, Kate Ricter & Joshua Root

One way to support your child in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making. In order for a child to learn the skill of making responsible decisions, the child must have the opportunity to make a decision and experience the consequences of his/her own decision. Our children may make quick decisions that are “rash, egocentric and short-sighted” without fully exploring the impact of their decision. They may even make a poor choice that has painful consequences. As parents it is difficult to watch our children struggle with consequences; however, it is our role as caring parents to do so.

Parents can start to teach their children the skill of decision-making at a young age, although decision-making is a “complex process that takes years to master”. Read the article Raising Good Decision Makers by Dr. Jim Taylor to learn more about how to teach your child the skill of decision-making.

The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed by Jessica Lahey and How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims are two books that address the importance of allowing children to experience the consequences of their actions.
