MRS. MEEK'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

Dear BPE Families,

It's hard to believe that we are starting the month of March. It's going to be quite a busy month. Living in a house with 3 sports-crazed men means that in the coming weeks I will be forced to fill out a bracket I don't understand and spend the break listening to family debates about picks and whose bracket got busted first. Yes, I'm referring to March Madness. And here at BPE we have our own type of March Madness because there is a lot "in play" this month.

  • On Monday, March 4 families will receive an email and be asked to complete the Student Verification process for the 2019-2020 school year.  If you do not receive the district email on March 4 please contact the front office. Kindergarten enrollment opens to the public. Incoming Kinder families will register online through the district website.
  • Thursday, March 7 at 8:00 am in the cafeteria– 2nd grade students, under the direction of Patience Jones and Joanna King, will perform Arf! The Musical for parents. We can't wait!
  • March 13, 14 & 15, 2019- Kite Days are among the events that add to the culture and experience that is Bridge Point. During PE, students will be involved in their own 45-minute kite day.  For three days there will be a constant buzz of delighted students as they try to successfully fly their kites.  Coach Dean and Coach Pate, our PE teachers, create the excitement for the days and we are grateful for all their extra efforts to pull this off year after year.  The kids love it.
  • March 18-22, 2019 is Spring Break
  • March 27, from 9:00-10:00 in the cafeteria we will be hosting Kindergarten Round-Up. This event begins the orientation and registration process for students who will begin their Kindergarten experience next year.  We invite you AND any neighbor you know who has a child who will be five-years-old by September 1, 2019.

Important message from Riverbend Centre for the Arts, Inc. aka Riverbend Church:

The PGA Tour dba WGC Dell Technologies match Play will be held at the Austin Country Club the week of Monday, March 25th through Saturday, March 29th, 2019.  Riverbend's parking lot will not be open for Bridge Point staff, parents or the public for the duration of the week. The PGA Tour will have all entrances to Riverbend manned by attendants (or blocked completely) and will permit vehicles into the parking lot via issued credentials.  In addition, the Austin Police Department has been hired to regulate the light at Cedar Street and 360 during peak hours. We realize there will be some inconvenience and certainly appreciate your understanding.

Have a great weekend,

Heather Meek

BPE NEWS

Counselors' Corner

This week we wrapped up our classroom lessons about kindness. In kindergarten through second grade classes, we read a book about kindness and then each student had the opportunity to drop a rock into water as they shared an act of kindness they had done. We discussed how the ripples in the water represent that ripple effect of each of our acts of kindness. In third through fifth grade classrooms, we shared a similar discussions and watched a beautiful Thai commercial that shows the large impact small acts of kindness can have. We are excited to introduce our new life skill, problem solving, on Monday!

As a reminder, spring break is only two weeks away! At spring break we will clear out the lost and found once again. Please encourage your children to visit the lost and found in the next two weeks to claim their items.

Sincerely,

Addie Edwards and Jennifer Cheatham

DISTRICT NEWS

By now you may be aware the school district is planning a slight adjustment to the attendance boundaries between Eanes and Bridge Point elementary schools. This is part of a long-range plan to relieve overcrowding at Eanes Elementary and balance enrollment at Bridge Point Elementary, which has space for more students. This boundary adjustment is also necessary to gradually lessen Eanes Elementary’s need for temporary classrooms on its campus within the next three to five years, while better utilizing Bridge Point’s existing capacity.

Student Information Verification (SIV) opens Monday, March 4 at 1 PM. SIV must be completed by March 15 for all Eanes ISD Students except current graduating seniors.

The following also open on March 4: New Student Online Enrollment, Spanish Immersion Application and Returning Transfer Application. Click title for more info.

Learn about the proposed $80 million bond election to be held on May 4, 2019.  The proposed bond requires no tax rate increase and includes projects under safety & security, student programs & support, energy efficiency & conservation, facilities as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular spaces.
