An Update from the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees
Superintendent's Report
Winter Break is within sight! Before we immerse ourselves into the hustle-and-bustle of the holidays, I want to thank our community for a wonderful first semester. It seems to get busier every year, but our students, staff and parents are amazingly resilient.

We have seen milestones accomplished, students recognized for incredible achievements, staff pulling together during challenging situations and parents responding admirably to support our schools. It has been amazing to witness and share a part in it all and I thank you for that.

In December, our Board held one meeting that included a report on the District's elementary Spanish Immersion pilot program, an update on co-and-extra-curricular bond projects and the approval of the 2020-21 and 2021-22 student calendars.

See a synopsis of the December meeting below. Full Board agenda packets are online.
Board Continues & Expands Elementary Spanish Immersion Program
The Board voted 7-0 to continue and expand the District's Spanish Immersion program to K-5 implementation at four of its six elementary schools. Currently, two elementary schools offer Spanish Immersion K-2 and two schools offer K-1. The program will now eventually expand K-5 in all four participating elementary schools - Barton Creek, Bridge Point, Cedar Creek and Eanes.

Co- and Extra-Curricular Bond Project Update
The Board heard an update and reviewed schematic conceptual designs on the co & extra-curricular 2019 Bond projects, including the robotics expansion, wrestling addition and aquatics center. This work follows months of focus group meetings, developing program specifics and design evaluations as well as discussing an aquatics center business plan.

2020-21 and 2021-22 Calendars Approved
The Board approved the 2020-21 and 2021-22 student calendars, following months of discussion involving parents, staff and the District Leadership Team (DLT).

The calendars accomplish several objectives in response to input from parents and staff:
  • Begin the school year on a Wednesday for students
  • Maintain a weeklong Thanksgiving vacation for students and staff
  • End the school year by Memorial Day on the same day for everyone
  • Reduce early-release days for PreK-5 to alleviate childcare concerns while preserving staff development
  • Honor major religious holidays through No Homework nights and early release days
  • Maintain or exceed state-required minutes in the school day and year
  • Build in minutes to absorb up to two inclement weather days
